Thanks so much for the tips. I actually gave it a try recently, you can see one of the photos at: [link]
I viewed it in the stereoscope and it looks quite good, although I'm sure with more practice I'll probably find ways to improve it. It's fascinating how even relatively "boring" images become much more interesting in 3D. I suppose it's because the depth allows your eye to move through an image without good lighting, composition, or depth of field to help. Very cool stuff!
Yup, I have done that. If you look way back in the gallery, that's how "Stereo Experiment #1" is done. The only trick to it is keeping the camera exactly level and not to move the camera too much. A person's eyes are only 2 - 2½ inches apart, so that's all you need. I've also experimented with using two identical (D)SLR camera mounted side-by-side and triggered simultaneously, which works well, but the sync is *quite* as good.
Fantastic gallery here, I'm loving the 3D stereoscopes especially. Have you ever tried to create one using 2 exposures on a standard SLR (stationary subject of course). I'd like to give it a try and am looking for tips.
Thanks for the fav. Man, you got tons of different stuff in your gallery. Great variety. All of it looks good too. Love the stereo pics. Wonder if I can get paint to do that???
